This is an evolving list, in no particular order, of websites that I’ve come across that I’ve found interesting for one reason or another.
Commentary
The Love Police: http://thelovepolice.eu/
Home of the Everything is OK gang. They always upload funny, touching, mischievous videos usually involving megaphones, hugging of police, civil disobedience and laughter. It’s intriguing to follow Charlie’s journey on his mission to change the system in a positive way.
The AntiTerrorist http://www.theantiterrorist.co.uk/
Don’t let the Halloween costume put you off. This guy has some really important, educational things to say about the state of the world, government, health, law, the police, and knowing your rights. Listen to what he has to say and then do your own research to see if he’s making it all up.
Danny Shine http://www.youtube.com/user/spiritualentertainer
The other half the (currently estranged) Everything is OK gang. Danny is the spiritual side to Charlie’s anarchic. When not hitting the streets of London armed with megaphone and camera, Danny shares with us the stories of his life journey. He’s especially candid with his thoughts, and what impresses me is he has no real philosophy, or goal in life. He doesn’t know where he’s going and he’s not sure what’s right or wrong. Much like most of us I suppose. The motto on his youtube page is “Don’t Believe A Word I Say.” Listen and make up your own mind.
News
Above Top Secret http://www.abovetopsecret.com/
Calling themselves the Most Popular Website for Alternative Topics, the ground they cover is pretty diverse. Everything from conspiracy theories, to links to alternative new sites, discussion, aliens, politics, they’ve got it all. A lot of it is weird, and you might think it’s somewhat “out there.” But faced with the one sided view of the world that we are fed via the mainstream media, ATS is a really important venue for hearing and discussing other viewpoints on world events. Another one of my daily must-reads.
InfoWars.com http://www.infowars.com/ and PrisonPlanet.com http://www.prisonplanet.com/
Essentially the same content on both sites, run by Alex Jones, who is the most famous of the web’s conspiracy theorists. Jones is a loud-mouthed jackass most of the time, but his site does offer a host of editorials and useful links to other websites offering an alternative slant on world news. There’s a load of stuff here about politics and economics. Nothing about aliens here… Things like the “Climage-gate” scandal were up on this site and Above Top Secret days before it hit the mainstream media. I like to visit this site, taking what I want from it and ignoring all the rest that doesn’t interest me. Once again, you’ve got to try it before you diss it, and just because you don’t agree with all of the content, doesn’t mean that you should ignore it.
Signs of the Times http://www.sott.net/
Another good alternative news site. This one focuses more on editorials, but also provides useful links to other alt-news outlets. Their once-monthly Connecting the Dots series is worth checking out just to see all of the weird stuff that happened, or was under reported in the last month, and how it might fit together.
The Register http://www.theregister.co.uk/
A techie website first and foremost, El Reg has been around for years; delivering the latest computer and IT industry news, with its traditionally sharp-tongued whit. Recently however, they have become critical of the UK governments plans for the surveillance state and are increasingly displaying articles about their use of CCTV, RFID chips, e-passports, body scanners, etc. Of course you can also get an in-depth review of the latest Apple gadget or Intel CPU as well.
Tech Dirt http://www.techdirt.com
The official line:
Started in 1997 by Floor64 founder Mike Masnick and then growing into a group blogging effort, the Techdirt blog uses a proven economic framework to analyze and offer insight into news stories about changes in government policy, technology and legal issues that affect companies ability to innovate and grow.
Distraction
The Pirate Bay http://thepiratebay.org/
Does it need an introduction? The most infamous of all bit torrent sites. The powers that be keep trying to shut it down, but somehow they manage to keep making themselves a nuisance.
MyP2P.eu http://www.myp2p.eu/
This site provides links to live streaming video of all sorts of sports events. If your favourites team’s game is not showing on your local TV station, there’s a chance it’s showing in some other country. That”s how myp2p works. It let you check out feeds of those TV stations showing your game. You might be watching Manchester United or the Chicago Bulls with German commentary, and sometimes the picture isn’t that great, but it’s free and lega…. not sure about the legal part. They did win a court case a few months ago, that ruled that they weren’t doing anything illegal. Much like the Pirate Bay, use at your own risk.
Free Documentaries http://freedocumentaries.org/ and http://video.google.com/
A whole pile of free documentaries on subjects such as environment, politics, economics, health, conspiracy, spirituality and many others.
Travel / Alternative Living
Nancy & Joseph http://www.worldglobetrotters.com/
We met this wonderful couple in India and again in Nepal. They are I think 6 years into a never-ending round the world trip. In their fifties, vegan, fearless and fun; they are real examples of what we can all do if we really want to. Their lives know no boundaries. Spending a couple of days with them was a bit of a life-altering experience. Reading their travel blog is the next best thing.
Ryan and Jo http://journals.worldnomads.com/ryanandjo/
Some friends of ours entering their second year of travel, kicking off a new adventure in South America. They are the top favourit-ed blog on World Nomads. check it out to find out why.
Travel Independent http://www.travelindependent.info/
All of those questions you might have about travelling, such as what should I bring, where should I go, how much will it cost, are all answered here. Great for researching travel destinations or just travel in general. I thought of doing a page like this, but they do it much better than I ever could!
Travel Fish http://www.travelfish.org/
Much like Travel Independent, but focused on Southeast Asia. We found it invaluable when visiting that area. you can book hostels here, find itineraries and loads more information on Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and the rest.
Lonely Planet Forums http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree
Very busy forums, which is exactly what you want in any forum, dedicated to all things travel. I’ve posted a number of questions here and have always gotten answers. Great for real world travel info.

My friend Paul’s photography site with shots from around London. The section on Industrial Clocks of the Underground is particularly engaging.
